Child Care Programs:

Child Care Facilities Program

The Child Care Facilities Program works with all child care providers in Johnson County. According to Kansas Child Care Licensing Law, anyone providing care for children other than those related by blood, marriage, or adoption, must be licensed or registered with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

  • Licensed facilities - initial and annual re-evaluation visits are made on-site to all licensed child care facilities, with recommendations for licensure to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
  • Registered day care homes - this type of care is limited to the care of six children at any one time, including the provider's own children. No annual visits are made.

On-site visits are made to:

  • Investigate complaints received at licensed and registered homes as well as centers.
  • Provide health and safety information to child care providers and parents.

Our department also provides:

  • Health and safety information to child care providers and parents.
  • Information to the public regarding Kansas Child Care Licensing Laws.
  • Guidelines to the public for selecting quality child care. (LINK TO CARE GUIDE)
  • Frequenty asked questions for providers and parents.
