West Nile Virus
(West Nile Encephalitis, West Nile Fever, WNV)

The Johnson County Health Department is not testing or taking phone calls on dead birds. If you do have to dispose of a dead bird, never touch it with your bare hands—use gloves, newspaper or plastic bags and garbage bags, and throw the bird away in your regular trash. Be sure to thoroughly wash your hands afterward.
