The Johnson County Health Department provides prenatal services in order to foster healthy growth and development during pregnancy and to promote a safe delivery for mother and baby.
 
  • To improve the health status of the pregnant woman and contribute to the best environment for the developing baby
  • To increase the number of infants born with birth weights greater than 5-1/2 lbs.
  • To make low-cost prenatal care available to (qualifying) low-income/uninsured Johnson County residents
 

Skilled staff to meet the needs of the mother and baby:
  • Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
  • Registered Nurses
  • Social Worker
  • Registered Dietitians
  • OB/GYN physicians from the University of Kansas Medical Center
  • Delivery and hospital services provided by the University of
    Kansas Medical Center
We emphasize health education with early and regular prenatal visits.
 
  • Pregnancy testing and counseling
  • Physical examinations on admission, throughout pregnancy and postpartum
  • Laboratory testing (CLIA approved laboratory)
    • hemoglobin/hematocrit
    • urinalysis
    • glucose
    • group B strep testing
  • Triple marker screening
  • Rubella screening and counseling
  • Assessment and counseling with social worker and dietitian
  • Adoption services referral
  • Individual/group education and videos
  • Postpartum home visits
  • Birth control methods and natural family planning
  • Diagnosis and treatment of minor health problems
  • Vaginitis testing and treatment
  • Sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment
  • HIV counseling, testing and referral (AIDS antibody)
  • Birth certificate application for home deliveries

At the Johnson County Health Department, we are dedicated to the prevention of disease and the promotion of wellness for our community. In order to protect the health of our clients and staff, we ask that no one enter our clinics with any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, rash, vomiting, or diarrhea. Services will not be provided to clients with these symptoms. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please call the Health Department to reschedule your appointment, and call your doctor for medical treatment.
