Child Care Facilities Program works with all child care providers in Johnson County. According to Kansas Child Care Licensing Law, anyone providing care for children other than those related by blood, marriage, or adoption, must be licensed or registered with the Kansas Department of Health & Environment.
- Licensed Facilities -- Initial and annual re-evaluation visits are made on-site to all licensed child care facilities, with recommendations for licensure to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
- Registered Day Care Homes -- This type of care is limited to the care of six children at any one time, including provider's own children. No annual visits made.
- On-site visits are made to investigate complaints received at licensed and registered homes as well as centers.
- Provide health and safety information to child care providers and parents.
- Provide information to the public regarding Kansas Child Care Licensing Laws.

Child Care Education Program:
- Educational consultations on child development, health, playground, food, and lead safety are provided by on-site observations, telephone contact, and at the Child Care Program office.
- Educational materials and resource information on early childhood topics are available.
- Workshops are provided by the child care staff on a wide variety of topics. See calendar or call for upcoming classes.
- To assist the public with general considerations in making a nursing home choice.
- To promote quality care through workshops, consultations, and monitoring visits.
- To inform the public regarding the complaint process.
- To monitor nursing home, Home Plus (1-5 bed homes) and assisted living facilities in Johnson County.
