The Johnson County Health Department provides prenatal services in order
to foster healthy growth and development during pregnancy and to promote
a safe delivery for mother and baby.
- To improve the health status of the pregnant woman
and contribute to the best environment for the developing baby
- To increase the number of infants born with birth weights greater than
5-1/2 lbs.
- To make low-cost prenatal care available to (qualifying) low-income/uninsured

We emphasize health education with early and regular prenatal visits.
- Pregnancy testing and counseling
- Physical examinations on admission, throughout pregnancy and postpartum
- Laboratory testing (CLIA approved laboratory)

- group B strep testing
- Triple marker screening
- Rubella screening and counseling
- Assessment and counseling with social worker and dietitian
- Adoption services referral
- Individual/group education and videos
- Postpartum home visits
- Birth control methods and natural family planning
- Diagnosis and treatment of minor health problems
- Vaginitis testing and treatment
- Sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment
- HIV counseling, testing and referral (AIDS antibody)
- Birth certificate application for home deliveries
